Popular actor, Emeka Ike, is presently battling hard to save his name from an alleged fraud mess he is presently swimming in. Just few weeks ago, the Federal Government, through the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, appointed the prolific actor as the ambassador of ‘Rhythm and Play’ initiative of the sports ministry.
Barely a month into his reign as the ambassador of ‘Rhythm n Play’, a case of an issuance of a dud cheque to a football team that won at his organised competition in December 2012 by the actor has reared its ugly head. The incident is now threatening to ruin the actor’s career and his deal with the FG.
Information gathered shows that the actor organised a local tournament called ‘Emeka Ike Desert Cup’, which took place at the Sandfill field at Ogudu Ori-Oke, Lagos State on December 24, 2012.
The winning team, Golden Star, got N500,000 and was issued a UBA cheque in that amount. As we further gathered, the team has been unable to cash the money from the bank because it has continuously bounced when presented.
A source confirmed that several efforts to make Emeka Ike rectify the problem has yielded no meaningful results as the actor has allegedly refused to pick his calls or reply to text messages sent to him by the team’s representative concerning the matter.
It was also learnt that 16 teams participated in the competition and were asked to pay N3000 each. The first and second runners-up; Lakeside and All Stars teams, have reportedly collected their respective cash prizes of N100,000 and N75,000 in January.
When contacted on the matter, Emeka Ike declined to speak on the allegations raised in the story. “I don’t want to talk about any scandal. My lawyers are working on some things,” the actor said on phone.
