Kogi Poly Shut Down Over Lecturer' s Murder

20 Students of the Kogi Sate Polytechnic have been remanded by the Lokoja Chief Magistrates' Court 1 on Tuesday, 7th May,2013 over alleged rioting and murder of their lecturer, Mr. Nathaniel Abimaje.
The order was given by The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Levi Animoku, when the accuse persons were arraigned before him.
The accused were said to be protesting the setting up of a panel in charge of examination malpractice cases.
Police Prosecutor, Mr. Samuel Ikutanwa, told the court that the accused had in their possession dangerous weapons which include cutlasses, axes and guns, with which they allegedly beat and stabbed Mr. Abimaje repeatedly to his untimely death.
The lecturer was taken to The Specialist Hospital, Lokoja but gave up the ghost before he could receive any medical attention.
The accused persons were charged with the offence of culpable homicide which is unbailable and also carries the death penalty under Section 221 of the Penal Code.
Mr. Ikutanwa urged the court to remand the accused persons in prison pending the conclusion of the investigations.
